Bwindi National Park Travel

Bwindi national park is one of the most famous parks in Uganda. Bwindi national park is a safe haven for rare and impressive wildlife – the mountain gorillas. The mountain gorillas are a major tourist attraction drawing many travellers to Uganda for gorilla trekking tours. The mountain gorillas are critically endangered and are in a constant threat of extinction. There are over 300 or so mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi National Park. To travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, head out towards south west of Uganda.

One would be forgiven to think that mountain gorilla is the only plausible activity in Bwindi, but apart from mountain gorillas, Bwindi National Park is home to chimpanzees, different species of monkeys and a prolific birdlife where approximately 350 species of birds have been observed. A chimpanzee tracking is also a big tourist draw. If you are adventurous and interested to embark on hiking or nature walks, there are several hiking trails in Bwindi that offer different experience and perspective of the park. Whilst on a nature walk in Bwindi, expect to encounter a variety of wildlife including; gorillas, chimpanzees, monkeys and birds.

Largely considered an all year travel destination, the best time for Bwindi gorilla trekking is during the dry season because the wet season compounds the trekking situation further. The dry season is between January and February and from June to September. Bwindi National Park has since been granted recognition as a World Heritage Site for its biological importance.
